“Educate and inform the whole mass of the people… They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.” Thomas Jefferson.
Here at American NonFiction, we are a vocal rebellion. We don’t talk about the hottest stars and who is sleeping with who, unless its the rejected torrid midnight passing of our loose lipped Writers. We don’t pay lip services to the off topic straw men and if that’s what you’re looking for than TMZ, WWTD, and Prez Hilton have you covered. We do our own thing and have a civic minded community to build.
In the creation of a definitive guide on American NonFiction, it is paramount to understand the many faces of American NonFiction. While it is our tag line to say American NonFiction is a Binary Zine, in a literal sense, we are a compilation of Binary Zines. From our three main categorize, Background Noise, Incorrect Grammar, and Channel, to our newly introduced “3 Cord Radio” podcast, American NonFiction has been designed to represent the voices of our subculture and to keep a unifying vein in the lifeblood of objection.
No matter the form of Government or society, objection remains the corner stone of freedom. Objection not only towards rule, but towards ways of life. If left without objection, the titans of humans will enslave the meek. While American NonFiction is not the only source to give a voice, the meek need all the help they can get, as they shall inherit the Earth and will shape and form their existence from the lesions of history. If no one takes the time to teach the future, we are doomed to repeat our messed up history.
We live in a messed up world. In the past week, I had a conversation with a friend who stated the following as fact. “Capitalism survives on cheap labor.” Which is neither fact or truth. While the short term merits of cheap labor produce substantial profits, the repercussion effect both long term profit and social justice. Today, in China, we saw the push towards democracy, in the light of their sweat shop slavery, and we are on the brink of a financial downfall from our abuse of their cheap labor.
Television has witnessed the fall out of cheap labor. For years we have been plagued by reality television. Reality television is preferable, by network executives, to scripted work as most of the “Actors” in reality shows are not paid and the production cost are low. As a result, the viewing public has grown sick of the social mirror and has migrated away from the glowing idiot box. The Networks loses advertisers and takes a cut to their profit. The reduction in profit means less scripted television shows and more reality television. More Reality television means less profit which means MORE REALITY TELEVISION. Ibso Facto, “My Name is Earl” is replaced by Jay Leno. And they wonder why we don’t watch. Then they claim the Internet has “ruined” television, Ha.
Do I even need to mention the music industry? Given the above, it appears then that Capitalism is defeated, not supported, by cheap labor. In Fact, cheap labor might be the antithesis of capitalism. Which is an alternative to the common line logic above but follows the same logic as marked out by prior fascist rules.
The world is all imploding and everyone is to blame. Yet we need to move forward. We need to learn from the past and take steps towards achievable goals. We live in America and you can be anything you want to be, but they don’t hand out certificates at the docks. We have to work for what we want, no matter what that is. What is that? The answer is different for everyone and there are no wrong answers when you live in insanity.
And We live in insanity. Our leaders and elders are insane. We must realize, the powers that be are the first generation of their kind. Their parents were the first generation to get indoor plumbing. Why then do they think their way of life is cemented into the halls of history. For 2000 years, the human race lived one way and, in one century, we managed to change the whole game board. We have some serious American NonFictions to face and that is precisely our name sake.
It is our hope with logical intentions, we can set the path strait. The job might be large and, maybe, it will take more than a rag tag, pirate website, but currently that is what we have. If there is one tenant to become the keystone of our foundation it is the ability of Americans to overcome odds. And while I write Americans, my intentions are that any human has the ability to save themselves with help and logic. Myself, my peers, and you.
In the following chapters, we will explore the different areas of American Nonfiction to gain a more cohesive understanding of our favorite website. We hope to show and execute how, together, we can achieve a better life for ourselves and our neighbors.
Talk is cheap and all the intellectuals of our history have exclaimed quotes to guide but action is necessary. Hillary Clinton has remarked “It takes a village” and, on American NonFiction, we use “Background Noise” to explore our village. George Washington said ““If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent may be led, like sheep, to the slaughter.” and there is no speech Freer than “Incorrect Grammar,” where we present our thoughts and voice unfettered by the laws of the English language. And Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Fiction reveals truth that reality obscures.” and in “Channel” We produce fiction to uncover the many layers of the truth. There are many more quotes and many more sections of American NonFiction. Let’s take a look…
