My Fellow Americans,
I sit at my computer screen in utter silence. A fan on my desk top gave off a spice of white noise against the night’s silence. The world was quiet. We had gone to the polls and cast our vote. There was nothing more to do but wait.
The Clock’s hands reached 11:00 PM and a great shout arose from the streets. People cat called and cars beeped out their joy. I had the television and radio powered off. I had no outside sources and assumed Obama was the first Half White / Hawaiian President elect. Shouts of “Yes We Can” cemented my suspicions. In an instant, the streets were alive with merriment. Only one thing could be certain for good or ill our well intentions have led us somewhere but where was this new plateau? The morning paper would show the real damage of November the 4th.
In the headlines of the 5 headed beast, “Yes We Can” amounted to the election of Obama and little else. Of the 11 props placed before the people, 6 passed. Their ballots ear mark the downfall of our current situation. Things have not changed on Election night. Only fools are surprised to find Americans will vote for a half White, Harvard Graduate. Go ahead Californians, give yourself a nice pat on the back, take a look at your Propositions, and ask yourself how you fare?
Of the Props to pass, there is a smorgus board of easy choices. Prop 1, the prop to build a safe, reliable high speed passenger train passed. In the days when Oil Barons have America by the balls, a train biased bond passed… Big surprise. 2 and 3 passed and again it’s a great, big, giant, surprise. 2 was for the ethical treatment of animals and 3 was for aid to children hospitals. With the passing of 4, young, loose legged woman no longer need their parent’s approval for an abortion. Now I understand why all the Vans were parked in the high school lot this afternoon. 11 passed and gave the victims of crimes to have a say in the parole process. The guilty no longer have to face only their crime but get to face their victim. And then the ballots of ballots, the one ballet to take more away from the citizens of the U.S. Passed.
You read that right, Prop 8 has eliminated the right of same sex couples to marry. The mob of right and left wing nut jobs have usurped the pursuit of happiness. In a hallmark case of freedom of Religion, the narrow minded fear mongers have taken back their ground. They have no right to dictate your religion and this fallacy of a judgment is written upon muddy foundations. No American has the right to tell an American how they can practice their worship. If marriage is the ultimate union of love and two able bodied worshipers of a church have the want to marry, there ain’t no Tom, Dick, or Cheney who will to stop them. Not on my watch and not in my America!
I want to eat my star rimmed hat every time I hear the phrase “Yes We Can”. Yes We Can elect an intelligent, foreword thinking, gentlemen. Yes we can save the animals and children. Yes we can build a train, 50 years too late. But we cannot ask our government owned utilities to generate 20% of their electricity from renewable sources, prop 7 failed, or fund alternative fuel, use and research, prop 10. Yes we can give a victim his chance at retribution, but we cannot offer rehabilitation to nonviolent drug offenders, prop 5 failed. We can increase the privatization of our prison system, but won’t pay for more police in our streets, prop 6 failed.
We did something on Tuesday, but we can not forget there is more work to be done. We are not the utopian society American is meant to be, but we have made movement in the right direction. Let’s not forget the bodies on the battlefield. We are here to fight the good fight and keep America for the Americans, every splendid shade born under Faded glory. Yes We Can America, but only if we keep our eye on the prize.
Until next time, console a conservative friend.
Uncle Sam

WHAT TO DO NOW?
